BAT Bangladesh among top tax paying companies

BAT Bangladesh has been recognised as one of the highest income tax paying companies in the country for the tax year 2019-20. 

State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain and National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem handed over a certificate, crest and tax card to Shehzad Munim, managing director and Sheikh Shabab Ahmed, head of external affairs of BAT Bangladesh in recognition of the contribution, read a press release.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal attended the ceremony virtually as chief guest. Arafat Huda Jaigirdar - Senior Manager, Fiscal Affairs and Sorowar Alam - Corporate Finance Manager, Taxation, were also present on behalf of BAT Bangladesh.

BAT Bangladesh has been recognised as one of the highest tax paying organisations of the country in 'other' categories for the past four years in a row. 

Apart from Income Tax, BAT Bangladesh has also been making huge contributions in the field of Value Added Tax (VAT), another important source of internal revenue for the government. 

In the last five years, the company has deposited more than Tk3,600 crore as Income Tax and Tk88,000 crore as VAT, to the National Exchequer.
