Yunus prepares to move out of Jamuna as PM's residence plans progress
Md Khalekuzzaman Chowdhury, chief engineer of the Department of Housing and Public Works, said the former chief adviser would leave Jamuna this month.
The now-dissolved interim government's chief adviser, Muhammad Yunus, is set to leave his official residence, State Guest House Jamuna, today or tomorrow, government sources have confirmed.
Although a new government was formed following the recent election, Yunus has continued to reside at Jamuna, even though plans had been in place for him to move back to his private residence in Gulshan.
Jamuna, located at 30 Hare Road in Dhaka, spans approximately 3.25 acres and is slated to become the official residence of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who has expressed interest in moving in.
At present, the prime minister resides at his private home in Gulshan. Once Yunus vacates the state guest house, renovation work and other preparations will begin before the prime minister takes up residence.
Md Khalekuzzaman Chowdhury, chief engineer of the Department of Housing and Public Works, said the former chief adviser would leave Jamuna this month.
"After that, renovation and other preparations will be completed for the prime minister," he said.
The adjacent bungalows at 24 and 25 Hare Road, currently occupied by senior officers overseeing Yunus's security, will be reassigned to officers responsible for the prime minister's security detail, officials added.
