A youth was stabbed to death following an altercation in the Jail Road area under Kotwali police station in Chattogram in the early hours of today (3 March).

Locals detained the attacker and handed him over to the police after beating him up. However, police have yet to confirm the identities of both the victim and the attacker.

Abdul Karim, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali police station, told The Business Standard that both the victim and the attacker were vagabonds.

"They lived together at the Shah Amanat shrine. Over a personal feud, they got into an altercation. At one point, one of them stabbed the other with a sharp knife. Locals witnessed the incident, caught the attacker, and beat him up," he said.

OC Karim added, "Upon receiving the information, a police team arrived at the scene and detained the attacker. Police also took the injured youth to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The attacker was also admitted to the hospital as he sustained injuries from the mob beating."

"We are trying to identify them through fingerprint analysis by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team," the OC further stated.

He also mentioned that there was an initial rumor that the deceased was killed by muggers.
