The deceased has been identified as Sayem, 22, of Rangpur.

A youth was beaten to death yesterday (21 August) over allegations of extortion in Cumilla's BSCIC industrial area.
The deceased has been identified as Sayem, 22, of Rangpur.
The incident occurred in the evening at the Fulmati Bhaban's Jannat Food Factory.
Confirming the incident, Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahinul Islam told The Business Standard, "Police recovered the body and sent it to the Cumilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy."
"Locals alleged that he was involved in extortion, theft, and mugging in the area. We are investigating the matter, and legal action will follow," the OC added.
According to locals, Sayem and his acquaintances frequently extorted money from factories in the BSCIC industrial area and were linked to theft and robbery as well.
At around 4pm, the victim reportedly went to the Jannat Food Factory to wring some money. Workers of the factory then confined and beat him. Later, when his associates tried to create chaos at the factory, locals gathered and assaulted Sayem again in the evening, leaving him dead on the spot.
When the police arrived, a brief altercation took place between them and Sayem's associates. Once the situation calmed down, law enforcers recovered the body.
