A youth was allegedly beaten and stabbed to death after being called out from his home in Ashoktola area of Cumilla.

The incident took place on Tuesday (3 December) night near the Ashoktola rail gate. Yesterday (4 December) Mohinul Islam, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Cumilla Kotwali Model police station, confirmed the incident.

The deceased identified as Sajib Hossain Babu, 22, was from Sultanpur village in Debidwar Upazila, reports media.

According to locals, on Tuesday (3 December) night, a youth, reportedly known to Sajib, called him out of his rented house in Ashoktola area. Subsequently, several young men beat and stabbed him, leaving him for dead near the Ashoktola railway line.

Receiving the news, Sajib's relatives rescued him in critical condition and admitted him to Moon Hospital of Cumilla city. While undergoing treatment, Sajib passed away yesterday (4 December) around 11:30am.

Locals further said, Sajib's relatives decided not to inform the police and attempted to take his body back to their village home out of fear.

However, police seized the body from his relatives on the way around 3pm and sent it to Comilla Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.

"A team has been sent to the scene. The victim's body bore marks of injury. Police and military personnel are working to investigate the incident and apprehend those involved," said OC Mohinul Islam.
