Sight Aid Foundation organised the programme to raise awareness about eye health and preventable blindness in the hill region.
Sight Aid Foundation organised a rally and discussion meeting in Lama upazila of Bandarban today (8 October) to mark World Sight Day 2026.
The rally began at the upazila parishad premises, followed by a discussion meeting attended by Lama Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Moin Uddin as the chief guest.
Thwinumong Marma, director of Sight Aid Foundation and coordinator for the Chittagong Hill Tracts region, moderated the discussion.
Advocate AHM Arif Chowdhury, former general secretary of Lama municipal BNP and a lawyer, spoke as the chief speaker.
"Vision is one of the most valuable gifts of the human body. To eliminate blindness and ensure proper eye care, healthcare services must be taken to the doorsteps of people living in the hill regions," he said.
Lama Press Club President Mohammad Karim, General Secretary Aminul Islam Khandaker, Acting President of Lama Development Foundation Abdullah Al Masud, and journalists Md Sahab Uddin and Nazrul Islam also spoke at the event.
Speakers highlighted the importance of eyesight and raising awareness about eye health. They said many people suffer from preventable blindness because of limited awareness and access to eye care and treatment.
