Workers block Dhaka-Ctg highway over unpaid dues in Narayanganj
Traffic was disrupted for about 45 minutes before police intervention ended the protest
Workers of a garment factory in Narayanganj's Siddhirganj blocked the Dhaka–Chattogram highway today (18 December), protesting the factory's closure without payment of outstanding wages and benefits.
The workers alleged that Kores Bangladesh Limited, located in the Mouchak area of Ward No 3 under Narayanganj City Corporation, announced the shutdown without clearing their salary arrears.
Angered by the move, the workers staged a protest and blocked the highway for around 45 minutes, bringing traffic to a halt on both sides of the Dhaka–Chattogram route.
On information, Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abdul Barik went to the spot and persuaded the workers to clear the road at around 2pm.
"We have convinced the workers to leave the highway," the OC said. "Discussions are ongoing with the factory authorities and the workers to resolve the issue. Further details will be shared later," he added.
