Work on Bhurungamari-Dhaldanga road near completion

The 9.5-kilometer road repair work from the bus terminal in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram to Dhaldanga Bazar is being completed.
Sensational information has been found behind the rumours that were spread recently about the carpeting being removed from a small section of the road. A person had a conflict with the subcontractor of the ongoing work. As a result of that conflict, the accused hit the carpeted road in front of his house with a shovel. Later, a massive uproar ensued after the boys in the area removed the carpeting with their hands and shared the video on social media. In this context, a complaint has been filed with the Bhurungamari police station alleging that the newly constructed government road was being damaged.
According to reliable sources, the 8 km, 850 m long, and 18 ft wide road from the bus terminal in Bhurungamari upazila to Dhaldanga Bazar began repair work on January 1, 2024, funded by the Asian Development Project (ADP). The road repair work is scheduled to be completed on June 30, 2025.
Sources said the Bhurungamari Upazila Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) supervises the ongoing road repair work under the Rural Connectivity Improvement Project (RCIP). The estimated cost of this work was 20 crore 9 lakh 30 thousand 8 hundred 8 taka. The contract price is 17 crore 77 lakh 55 thousand 2 hundred 28 taka. Later, the revised contract price was fixed at 17 crore 71 lakh 37 thousand 63 taka.
The source further said that out of the total length of 8 kilometres, 850 meters are RCC cast road, 2385 meters are RCC carpeted road, and the remaining road is planned to be carpeted. The speed of road repair work has been increased, considering the upcoming monsoon season. As a result, the road repair work will be completed a month ahead of schedule, according to the source.
On the spot, it can be seen that the work of RCC cast road from the bus terminal of Bhurungamari upazila to the hospital intersection via Jamtala and in the area called Paglahat Bazar was completed long ago. The carpeting is progressing successfully at a fast pace. The work of carpeting only 30 meters of the remaining road is ongoing.
On the spot, it was also seen that out of a quarter of a 9-kilometre road, only 30 feet in length and 18 feet in width of the road in the Dhaldanga area have been damaged. Sensational information was discovered while investigating the primary cause of the carpet damage. On May 4, 2025, a day after the road was carpeted, on May 5, 2025, due to a previous dispute, the road construction engineer Belal Hossain damaged the road by hitting a section with a shovel. Then he systematically spread propaganda that the carpet was coming loose due to its poor quality. Upon learning this news, the executive engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department in Kurigram and the relevant experts visited the site on May 6, 2025. They inspected various locations and found that the work on the road had been completed according to the estimate. They found no irregularities anywhere.
Meanwhile, Md. Fakhrul Islam, the manager of the road repair work, has filed a complaint with the Bhurungamari Police Station alleging obstruction of government work.
Subcontractor Belal Hossain challenged journalists and said, "Any engineer in the country can come and see the road work." There were no errors or irregularities in the roadwork. Due to previous enmity, only 30 feet of the road carpeting out of 9.5 kilometres has been removed with shovels. I demand justice for this incident.
Regarding this, Bhurungamari Upazila Engineer Md. Inchaful Haque Sarkar said, "There is no chance of low-quality carpeting being produced in the asphalt plant. The carpeting that has been damaged is alleged to have been done due to past enmity."
When talking to Bhurungamari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Golam Ferdous said, "If the allegations made by the subcontractor are found to be true, action will be taken against the perpetrators under criminal law."
In the same context, Md. Masuduzzaman, Executive Engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department in Kurigram, said, "I have seen the road work on site. I did not find any irregularities or defects anywhere. I went there and saw where the carpeting had come off.", The carpeting that was removed, the carpeting is stuck together. If the work were of poor quality, the carpeting would not have been able to stick together. It seems to me that the carpeting on the road was removed, which is a criminal offence.
