Won’t serve in polls-time govt, will step down before schedule: Adviser Asif Mahmud
He emphasised that his role in government was to serve the mandates of the July Uprising, not to enjoy power

Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, adviser to the LGRD and cooperatives ministry, has announced that he will not serve in the election-time government.
Speaking on a talk show hosted by Thikana TV's Khaled Muhiuddin, aired yesterday (12 August), Asif said, "Someone active in politics should not be part of an election-time government. Therefore, I will step down before the election schedule is announced."
Asif, a key student leader of the anti-discrimination movement turned mass uprising of 2024 that toppled the Awami League government, did not specify whether he plans to run in the next national election or join the National Citizen Party (NCP).
Asif, who also oversees the youth and sports ministry at present, also discussed the interim government's first year, the military's political role, divisions among July Uprising allies, and his own political future.
He emphasised that his role in government was to serve the mandates of the July Uprising, not to enjoy power.
He noted that crucial tasks, such as implementing the July Declaration and reforming local government, still need to be completed, calling their fulfilment a "historical liability."
