Several former ministers, state ministers and members of the parliament (MP) of the ousted Awami League (AL) government attended a meeting held in London yesterday (8 December), which was virtually addressed by the former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Among those seen in the audience were former minister of fisheries and livestock Abdur Rahman, former state minister for expatriate welfare and overseas employment Shafiqul Rahman Chowdhury, former member of parliament Habibur Rahman Habib, and former cabinet secretary Kabir Bin Anwar, reports Prothom Alo.

The UK Awami League organised the meeting at the Impression Venue Hall in East London.

This was the first public appearance of Abdur Rahman, Shafiqul Rahman Chowdhury, Habibur Rahman Habib, and Kabir Bin Anwar after the fall of the AL government.

Abdur Rahman, an Awami League's praesidium member, was an MP from the Faridpur-1 constituency. Shafiqul Rahman Chowdhury was from the Sylhet-2 constituency, and Habibur Rahman Habib was from Sylhet-3.

Kabir Bin Anwar retired as cabinet secretary in January of last year. In January this year, he officially joined AL.

Multiple cases have been filed against them in the country.

Travel bans seem to have no impact

With Sheikh Hasina fleeing to India after the fall of AL on 5 August, most of the Awami League's ministers, MPs, leaders, and activists went into hiding.

Many are believed to have fled the country, even though there are court-imposed travel bans on them.

On 1 October, the court imposed a travel ban on Kabir Bin Anwar and his wife, Toufika Ahmed, following a request from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to prevent them from leaving the country.

Kabir Bin Anwar was seen attending the AL rally yesterday.

Earlier in October, Qatar-based media Al-Jazeera spotted former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury outside a $14 million home in London.

He also had a court order barring him from leaving Bangladesh.
