Water supplier, detained during crackdown on Hizb ut-Tahrir march, freed after intervention by Asif Mahmud

A man who was detained by law enforcers while police were dispersing members of the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir during a march in the capital's Paltan area, has been freed following intervention by Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan.
Asif, adviser for the ministry of sports and the ministry of local government, rural development and cooperatives, was seen taking the man away from the office of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch on Minto Road at around 4:40pm.
In a post on his Facebook profile, Asif said the man, identified as Arman, is a former rickshaw puller and now works as a water supplier.
"When he [Arman] went to help the police, he was attacked and injured. Later, army members detained him and handed him over to the DB," the adviser wrote in the post.
The adviser told Prothom Alo that he released Arman from the DB office and brought him to the hospital for treatment.
Earlier in the day, police charged batons and fired teargas shells and sound grenades to disperse members of the banned organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir as they brought out a procession under the "March for Khilafat" banner in Dhaka.
Law enforcers reportedly detained several people from the procession. However, the total number of people detained is not yet known.
