'Justice for Shammo': Chhtra Dal ends sit-in protest at Shahbag, InterContinental intersections after 7hrs
The JCD president announced the conclusion of the day’s sit-in programme around 5pm

After a prolonged seven-hour protest, members of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal vacated the Shahbag and Hotel InterContinental intersections in the capital this evening (22 May).
More than a hundred leaders and activists of JCD, led by the party's Central President Rakibul Islam, took positions at the intersections around 10am demanding a fair trial of the killing of their leader Shahriar Alam Shammo, according to media reports.
JCD General Secretary Nasir Uddin led the parallel demonstration at the InterContinental intersection.
The JCD president announced the conclusion of the day's sit-in programme around 5pm.
Officer-in-Charge of Shahbag Police Station Khalid Mansur told The Business Standard, "Vehicular movement in the area has been snapped due to their protest."
During the protest, JCD President Rakibul Islam said, "We have not seen any promises or progress regarding the trial of Shammo's killing. The administration is playing hide and seek with us."
In a statement published yesterday (21 May), the Dhaka University administration informed about detaining three individuals suspecting them to be involved in Shammo's killing.
Asked about the statement, Rakibul said, "The university administration has failed to disclose the identities of the three detainees. We think the university administration is still in doubt. They could not say anything clearly about the accused."
JCD informed about today's protest in a statement yesterday, which said their protest will continue from 10am to 5pm demanding justice for Shammo through immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of his killers.
