The United States and Bangladesh have advanced their defence cooperation through the multinational humanitarian exercise Pacific Angel 25, held at Zahurul Haque Cantonment in Chattogram.
Chargé d'affaires at the US Embassy in Dhaka, Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson, joined senior Bangladesh armed forces officials yesterday (16 September) to observe the programme, which focuses on humanitarian assistance and disaster response, the US Embassy in Dhaka said in a press release issued today (17 September).
The seven-day exercise has brought together nearly 92 US and 90 Bangladesh Air Force personnel, alongside two Sri Lanka Air Force medical personnel, the Oregon Air National Guard, and other regional partners to enhance cooperation in medical readiness, air safety, engineering support, and disaster management operations.
A press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the Bangladesh Air Force, in collaboration with the United States Pacific Air Forces, is currently conducting a seven-day joint exercise, "Operation Pacific Angel 25-3".
As part of the drills, various air, ground, and wartime scenario exercises were held today (17 September).
The exercises included the transportation of critically injured patients and transferring them from one aircraft to another. Such exercises aim to enhance emergency medical response, in-flight coordination, and rapid decision-making capabilities, it said.
Search and rescue operations were also conducted, focusing on coordinated response and timely evacuation of casualties during accidents, adverse weather conditions, or combat situations.
According to the embassy, Pacific Angel 25 highlights the United States' and Bangladesh's ongoing commitment to defence cooperation and humanitarian preparedness, strengthening the ability to respond swiftly and effectively to future crises.
