Under fire by BNP followers, Rumeen withdraws land application

In the face of criticisms, Barrister Rumeen Farhana, a BNP MP from reserved seat, has opted to withdraw her application seeking a 10-katha land from Housing and Public Works Ministry.

In a letter sent to Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim, Rumeen said she was withdrawing the application submitted on August 3 seeking the plot.

Rumeen, in her letter, said showing respect to the sentiment of her party’s grassroots leaders and activists and its well-wishers she decided to withdraw her application for the plot.

She also asked the minister to take necessary steps in this regard.

On June 9, she took oath as a member of the 11th Parliament from one of the seats reserved for women. Joining the House on the first day, she described the government and parliament as illegal.

Less than two months after she was sworn in, the BNP MP on August 3 applied for the 10-katha plot in Purbachal residential area in Dhaka.

As the application has recently gone viral on Facebook, it sparked mass criticisms by social media users, questioning her integrity as she sought the land from the government that she has long been calling as an illegal and immoral one.

Some BNP leaders also criticized Rumeen for seeking the plot from the government.
