Two men have been arrested and sent to jail today (24 February) in connection with separate incidents of rape and attempted rape in the Bason Police Station area of Gazipur.

Kaiser Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Bason Police Station, confirmed the arrests and said two cases have been filed regarding the incidents.

In one case, a college student was raped in the Dighirchala area on Saturday, according to the FIR.

The victim, a second-year student of Bhawal Badre Alam Government College, filed a case last night, and police arrested the accused, Nazrul Islam, this morning.

Nazrul, 53, worked as a security guard and lived in a rented house in the area.

According to the case statement, the incident occurred on 22 February around 5:30am when the victim was on her way to Chandna Chowrasta to travel to her village home in Jamalpur. The accused allegedly stopped her, took her to an alley, and raped her before fleeing.

Attempted rape on madrasa student

In the second case, a fifth-grade madrasa student was allegedly sexually assaulted yesterday evening while visiting a photo studio in Bhogra Madhya Para to take pictures.

The child's father filed a case, alleging that a studio employee attempted to rape her.

Police arrested the accused, Hasan, 28, who worked at the studio.

According to the case statement, the child went to the studio in the evening to get photos taken for educational purposes. When she did not return home after over half an hour, her father went looking for her.

He found his daughter inside a room at the studio with her hijab removed and the accused adjusting his clothes. The accused allegedly admitted to sexually harassing the girl and apologised to her father.

The victim's father then informed the police, who detained Hasan.

Both accused have been sent to jail following court orders.
