Chandpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Mohsin Uddin said that no launch without proper fitness will be allowed to operate on the Chandpur-Dhaka route after 26 March to ensure passenger safety and service quality.

A magistrate will be stationed at the launch ghat five days before Eid to oversee passenger safety, he said at a meeting held today (19 March) afternoon near the city's Madrasa Road launch ghat, aimed at ensuring the safety of river travelers during the Eid journey.

Besides, four Ansar members will be assigned to each launch to further enhance passenger safety.

The DC also warned that any CNG-run auto-rickshaw or easy bike-pulling passengers will face a fine of Tk500, and their vehicle will be seized.

He said that the bulkhead in the river will be closed both day and night.

Speedboats will operate during the day to ferry passengers to Chandpur, but will not run at night due to the adverse weather conditions.

He emphasised the need for vigilance, especially regarding passengers boarding and disembarking from launches.

"To ensure safety, adequate law enforcement will be deployed at the launch ghat, and a control room will be established there," he added.

In addition, the DC pointed out that many passengers contribute to river pollution by throwing garbage into the water.

He mentioned that launch authorities will address this issue, and if needed, announcements will be made using hand microphones on each floor of the launch to raise awareness.

The DC urged everyone to fulfill their responsibilities to ensure a safe and pleasant Eid celebration.
