Fares of northbound trains thru Jamuna Bridge to increase from 19 Mar

The fares for northbound trains crossing the Jamuna Bridge will increase from 19 March, a day after the bridge's inauguration.
Railways Secretary Md Fahimul Islam confirmed the development to The Business Standard today (9 March).
He, however, could not immediately confirm exactly how much the fares will increase.
Citing ticket prices for 19 March, various local media outlets have reported an increase in train fares on the Dhaka-Rajshahi route.
According to the reports, ticket prices for Dhumketu, Silk City and Padma Express trains have increased by Tk45 for Shovon chairs, Tk92 for Snigdha chairs, Tk109 for AC Special seats, and Tk161 for AC berth seats. Besides, the fare of the Banalata Express will also increase.
The construction of the Jamuna Rail Bridge began on 29 November 2020. The bridge will be inaugurated on 18 March, and trains will run on two lines from the next day.
The construction cost of the bridge was Tk16,780 crore.
Shohoz.com, which sells train tickets online, has also issued a notice about the price hike on its website.
