DMTCL forms 10-member committee to implement HC directives on MRT-6 safety
The panel has been tasked with implementing urgent safety recommendations, coordinating with technical experts, and submitting a progress report to the High Court by 12 August following the MRT-6 bearing pad incident.
The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has formed a 10-member high-level internal committee to implement the urgent recommendations of a safety audit committee following the MRT Line-6 bearing pad accident.
The committee was formed on 16 July, DMTCL said in a press release issued today (29 July).
A writ petition was filed with the High Court following the incident in which a bearing pad fell from the metro rail structure.

During the hearing on 30 June, the High Court directed DMTCL to implement the "Immediate Recommendations" prepared based on the safety audit committee's report. It also gave the authorities until 12 August to submit a progress report.
Following the court order, DMTCL Managing Director Shaugatul Alam issued an office order forming the committee.
The committee has been tasked with reviewing the High Court's directives and the safety audit committee's recommendations and ensuring their swift implementation.
DMTCL Director for Operations and Maintenance Md Nazrul Islam will serve as the committee's convener, while MRT Line-1 Deputy Project Director for Civil-2 (Underground) Khaled Anwar Sagar will serve as member secretary.
The other members are MRT Line-6 Project Director Brig Gen (retd) Mohammad Abdul Wahab, MRT Line-1 Project Director Md Sarwar Uddin Khan, General Manager for Rolling Stock Mrinal Kanti Banik and MRT Line-6 Additional Project Director for Civil Mohammad Shahjahan.
The committee also includes Additional Project Director for Underground Mohammad Moniruzzaman, Additional Project Director for Electrical, Signal and Track Md Rezaur Rahman Akand, General Manager for P-Way and Civil Md Arifuzzaman and General Manager for Electrical Mir Manjur Rahim.
Its responsibilities include preparing and implementing an action plan in line with the safety audit recommendations and the High Court's directives.
The committee will also coordinate overall work on MRT Line-6, maintain communication with the consulting firm and, where necessary, coordinate with the safety audit committee led by former Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology vice-chancellor Professor Md Jahangir Alam.
It will prepare a detailed progress report on the implementation of the recommendations and submit it to the High Court through DMTCL by the 12 August deadline, the release added.
