Barvida for scraping imported reconditioned vehicles’ dual registration
Barvida leaders also have proposed to join hands with BRTA to prevent road accidents in the country
Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association (Barvida) has urged the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) for ending the practice of dual registration of the imported reconditioned vehicles.
Leaders of Barvida, led by its president Abdul Haq, made the remark at a discussion with BRTA Chairman Noor Mohammad Majumder at BRTA Bhaban on Wednesday, reads a press release.
These vehicles are usually registered twice – once in the name of the importer and later in the name of the buyer.

Barvida leaders have also proposed to join hands with the BRTA to prevent road accidents in the country and bring more discipline in the transportation system of the capital.
In reply to Barvida demands, the BRTA chairman has formed a sub-committee and asked it to take necessary steps to scrap the practice dual registration of imported reconditioned vehicles after scrutinising the relevant law.
They also emphasised the need to control the import of low-quality vehicles in the country and further modernise the research and development (R&D) department of the BRTA.
Secretary General of the Association Mohammad Shahidul Islam, Vice-President Mohammad Saiful Islam, Treasurer Mohammad Anisur Rahman and Cultural Secretary Benazir Ahmed were present at the meeting.
BRTA Secretary Khandaker Oliur Rahman and Director (Administration) Md Azizul Islam and senior officials of various departments also attended the meeting.
