Traffic restrictions around parliament areas tomorrow for Khaleda's janaza
A large number of people are expected to attend the funeral, prompting the DMP to announce the restrictions
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced traffic restrictions on roads surrounding the National Parliament for security and smooth traffic management ahead of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's namaz-e-janaza.
The janaza will be held at the South Plaza of the Parliament after Zuhr prayers tomorrow (31 December).
According to a public notice issued by the DMP today (30 December), the restrictions are set to come into effect from 7am tomorrow.

The notice stated that to keep the funeral site clear, roads including Rapa Plaza to Ganabhaban crossing, Farmgate to the West end of Manik Mia Avenue/Aarong crossing, Bijoy Sarani crossing to Lake Road to Ganabhaban crossing, and Urojahaj crossing to Khejurbagan crossing to Farmgate police box will be closed.
Additionally, the ramp to Farmgate on the elevated expressway will be closed, with commuters advised to use the FDC ramp instead.
The notice also outlined alternative routes and vehicle restrictions for smooth traffic management. Limited vehicles will ply on Farmgate/Bijoy Sarani (Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue) road from Sonargaon intersection, and drivers are advised to avoid Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue as much as possible.
Vehicles traveling from Banani-Mohakhali-Gulshan or Airport Road to Ramna-Shahbagh-Motijheel-Paltan-Gulistan should avoid the Mohakhali-Jahangir Gate-Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue route and use the road in front of the Mohakhali Bus Terminal and Moghbazar Flyover.
Vehicles from Mirpur to Dhanmondi-Mohammadpur are advised to avoid Manik Mia Avenue and use the Mirpur-Technical-Shamoli Ring Road.
For vehicles traveling from Mirpur to Ramna-Motijheel, the suggested route is via Mirpur Road, passing Shyamoli, Agargaon Crossing, Fakruddin Road/Link Road (Bir Uttam Major General Azizur Rahman Road), and then Jahangir Gate-Mohakhali-Tejgaon-Moghbazar Flyover.
Vehicle movement will be restricted from Panthapath crossing toward Sonargaon Hotel crossing, with diversions from Dhanmondi-32 crossing and, if necessary, Science Lab Crossing. Limited vehicle movement will also be enforced from the Chief Adviser's Office crossing to the south.
The DMP has advised vehicles arriving for the funeral to park at designated areas including the old Trade Fair grounds, Motijheel Commercial Area, Shahbagh Police Station Area, Bou Bazar/Gorur Hat Area of Uttara Sector-17, and the Purbachal Expressway 300 Feet Service Road.
Funeral convoy route from Evercare Hospital to Parliament
Khaleda Zia's body will be transported from Evercare Hospital to the South Plaza of the Parliament via 36 July Expressway, Kuril Flyover, Navy Headquarters, Basbhaban Firoza, Gulshan-2, Kamal Ataturk Avenue, Airport Road, Mohakhali Flyover, Jahangir Gate, Bijoy Sarani, Urojahaz Crossing, and then left to Gate- 6 of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban before being brought to the South Plaza.
