A trader has been hacked to death allegedly by members of a teen gang over reported drug peddling in Ashulia, police said today (26 February).

The deceased Momin Islam, 32, was a resident of Dakshin Bypile area under Ashulia police station. He ran a gas cylinder business in the area.

The victim's family alleged that local teen gang leader Rubel had been pressuring Momin to get involved with him in drug peddling but he rejected it repeatedly.

Being enraged by it, some 30 members of the gang equipped with sharp swooped on him on his way to the shop from in the Dakshin Bypile area today morning, they alleged.

The attack left him dead on the spot.

Inspector (investigation) of Ashulia police station Kamal Hossain said being informed they recovered the body from the spot and sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Six suspects were detained in this connection shortly after the murder, he said, adding that drives were underway to nab others.
