TNZ Apparels workers block roads in Paltan demanding unpaid wages, bonuses before Eid-ul-Fitr

Workers of the TNZ Apparels Limited Group, from Gazipur, have staged a protest this afternoon by blocking roads in the Paltan area, demanding unpaid wages, bonuses before Eid-ul-Fitr and other outstanding dues.
The workers gave the factory administration a one-hour ultimatum and held a sit-in at the Kakrail-Paltan road at around 4pm, pressing their demands which also include clearing the dues of workers' pending salaries of last two months and staff members' pending salaries of last five months.
They said they do not wish to stay on the road but will only leave if the administration takes prompt action.
The blockade caused traffic disruptions, resulting in suffering for the general public.
Zahirul Islam, a leader of the workers of TNZ Apparel, said all due wages and Eid bonuses were supposed to be paid by 18 March.
"However, the owners have gone into hiding before fulfilling their obligations, which is why the workers have resorted to protesting on the road."
Another worker Rabeya Begum said although the owners had given assurances, no action has been taken.
