Tk98 lakh Gazipur gunpoint robbery: No arrests made 4 days later, police suspect inside job
The police are working a crucial lead: even the owner could be involved in robbing his own office

The offices of Multi Point BD, a mobile financial service distributor, stands deserted in Gazipur's busy Chandana Chowrasta area.
Five days ago, this was the spot of a brazen robbery, where 14 armed men stormed the office posing as officials of the Detective Branch and looted Tk98 lakh at gunpoint.
The office is located on the sixth floor of the Riaz Tower, making an easy and unnoticeable escape difficult. The time of the robbery – 5:45pm – also meant there were ample witnesses around.
Four days later, police are yet to make any arrests. Law enforcers, meanwhile, believe this was an inside job and one of the owners could be involved.
According to officials, the robbers, posing as DB, held employees hostage and beat them up.
At one point, they locked the employees in a room and took Tk98,18,000 from the organisation's vault.

After the incident, the national emergency service 999 was called, and the police inspected the scene.
A case was also filed with the Basan Police Station.
"We have filed a case accusing unknown persons. Although a case has been filed in this regard, the police have not yet been able to arrest anyone," general manager of the organisation Shah Mohammad Ekramul Haque said.
The police, however, are working a crucial lead: even the owner could be involved in robbing his own office.
Basan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Kaiser Ahmed said, "We have started an investigation. Insider involvement is suspected and efforts are being made to make arrests. If the suspect can be arrested, the looted money can be recovered."
He also said the police were not aware such large transactions were taking place in the institution.
Also, one of the owners is an accused in a case filed by a police station in Dhaka in the casino case and is currently absconding in Dubai, he added.
"It was people within the office who committed the crime," he said.
General Manager of Multi Point BD Ekramul Haque also said their officials could be involved.
"We could not immediately collect CCTV footage. Later, on April 17, we were able to collect CCTV footage. After looking at the footage, we have also identified the supervisor of the institution as involved in the incident."
He also said one of their four owners was absconding.
GMP Deputy Police Commissioner (Crime-North) Md Rabiul Hasan said arrests would be made soon.
