Tk89,380cr allocated for salaries, allowances in FY27; no additional provision for new pay structure

The government has allocated a total of Tk89,380 crore for salaries and allowances in the 2026–27 fiscal year budget.

However, although the implementation of a new pay structure for government employees is expected in the next fiscal year, no additional allocation has been made in the budget for salaries and allowances, as per officials at the Ministry of Finance.

Of the total allocated amount, Tk13,874 crore has been set aside for cadre officials' salaries, Tk30,671 crore for employees' salaries, and Tk44,835 crore for allowances for officials and employees.

In the current fiscal year, the original budget allocation for salaries and allowances was Tk84,114 crore, which was revised to Tk84,739 crore in the amended budget.

The finance ministry officials said there are plans to partially implement the new pay structure from the beginning of the next fiscal year, possibly starting with half of the basic salary.

However, the pay structure recommended by the National Pay Commission formed under the interim government will not be implemented in full.

A committee of secretaries has been formed to review the commission's report, but it has not yet submitted its recommendations, the officials added.

The officials further said the secretary committee may revise the proposed pay structure and suggest a lower rate of salary increase.

However, if the government decides to implement the new pay structure from July, there will be no budgetary constraints.

Funds from block allocations in various sectors and allocations for unforeseen expenditures will be used to finance it.

Around Tk37,000 crore has been kept as block allocation in various sectors, according to the finance ministry officials.

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury is set to table the national budget for FY2026-27 in the House tomorrow afternoon (11 June).
