Titas continues crackdown on illegal gas connections
Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC carried out multiple operations on Tuesday, 22 July 2025, as part of its ongoing efforts to detect and eliminate illegal gas use.
In Kamrangirchar, under Dhaka Sales Division-5, a drive was led by Monija Khatun, Senior Assistant Secretary and Executive Magistrate (in-charge), Energy and Mineral Resources Division. A commercial gas line at Shahjalal Metal, a factory based in Khanaduli, was disconnected due to illegal usage. The team removed 10 feet of 3/4-inch GI pipe, 30 feet of PVC pipe, a booster, 10 feet of whiz pipe, and two pipe burners. A fine of Tk 50,000 was realised from the factory owner.
On the same day, Hasibur Rahman, executive magistrate (senior assistant secretary), Energy and Mineral Resources Division, led a separate drive in the Jangal, Barpara, Bandar area of Narayanganj under the Jobia-Bandar zone of Titas Gas. Around 1,000 illegal gas stoves spread across a 6-kilometre area were disconnected. The team also removed 230 feet of pipeline of various diameters, 24 regulators, and six locking cocks.
Meanwhile, a drive was conducted at two locations in East Barenda, Kashimpur, Gazipur, under Chandra Regional Sales Division of Titas Gas. The operation was supervised by an executive magistrate appointed by Md. Shahid Ullah, Assistant Commissioner, District Administration, Gazipur. Gas lines for approximately 300 double burners in 32 houses were disconnected. A total of 450 feet of pipelines of various diameters were removed, and a fine of Tk 2,75,000 was collected from the owners of four houses for having completely illegal connections.
In Dhaka, Executive Magistrate Simon Sarkar—appointed by the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources—led a drive under the Metro Dhaka Sales Division-1 at three locations in the Thulathulia, Demra area. Illegal residential-to-commercial gas connections at Shravan Washing, Brothers Washing, New Color Washing, and New Jeans Washing were disconnected. Customer code 101-16869 was flagged in this operation. The team seized 590 feet of pipelines, 11 residential regulators, two compressors, two stoves, four pipe burners, 100 feet of hose pipe, and 60 feet of 1-inch plastic pipe. A combined fine of Tk1,50,000 was imposed on the owners of New Color Washing and New Jeans Washing.
Additionally, 20 completely illegal residential connections were disconnected, and the connection of Azizul Haque (customer code: 10124714) was severed due to unpaid arrears.
Titas Gas confirmed that its enforcement operations will continue in the coming weeks to curb illegal usage and ensure safe and legal distribution of natural gas.
