Telenor CEO meets PM, reiterates commitment to digital transformation
She pledges to support govt’s goal of a $1 trillion economy by 2034
President and CEO of Telenor Group, Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer, has reaffirmed the company's continued commitment to supporting Bangladesh's digital development.
During a call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at his Secretariat office today (13 April), the Telenor chief discussed the company's interest in further developing the telecommunications sector and strengthening digital inclusion.
Fasmer also briefed the prime minister on Telenor's ongoing activities in Bangladesh, according to Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, reports BSS.
Telenor, a leading Norwegian telecom giant, presented various issues related to its investment and future plans in Bangladesh to the PM.
During the meeting, Fasmer highlighted Telenor's sustained presence in Bangladesh over nearly three decades, reads a press release.
She also underlined Bangladesh's strategic importance to Telenor in Asia and Telenor's role as a long‑term partner to the country's digital transformation.
Telenor reiterated its commitment to expanding connectivity, investing in skills and capabilities that support sustainable economic growth.
Discussions also focused on the need to equip young Bangladeshis with future-ready skills, including in Artificial Intelligence, to improve access to skilled employment and support the government's development ambitions, including its vision for a $1 trillion economy by 2034.
In line with a shared vision of building a safer and smarter future, Telenor and Grameenphone expressed confidence in Bangladesh's long-term potential and their intention to continue contributing to the country's digital journey.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of a predictable, investment-friendly regulatory and policy environment to accelerate sustainable progress and unlock the full value of digital connectivity.
Senior officials from the concerned ministries, Yasir Azman, chief executive officer of Grameenphone, and senior representatives from Telenor and Grameenphone were also present.
