The use of the internet and smart devices at the household level in Bangladesh has continued to rise, even as electricity consumption saw a marginal decline, according to the latest data from the BBS.
The ICT Application and Usage Survey 2024-25, released on the BBS website on Monday, also reveals that mobile phone usage also increased slightly, from 97.9% to 98.8%, while smartphone adoption saw a more significant jump from 63.3% to 72.8%.
Additionally, the proportion of households using televisions increased from 62.2% to 65.6%, while computer usage among households saw a modest rise from 8.9% to 9.2%. Radio usage also edged up slightly, from 14.9% to 15.5%.
The report noted that in 2023, 99.1% of households had access to electricity, which slightly declined to 98.5% in 2024–25.
The report also highlighted ICT use among individuals aged five years and above, revealing that 88.2% use mobile phones, 64.8% own a personal phone, 48.6% access the internet, and 9% use a computer.
BBS officials noted that the trends reflect a growing digital engagement across the country, driven primarily by the widespread adoption of smartphones, while electricity coverage remains largely stable.
