Teenager's leg severed in landmine explosion near Naikhongchhari border

A teenage boy lost his leg in a landmine explosion near the Naikhongchhari border in Bandarban's Jamchhari area today (22 June).
The incident occurred around 12 noon at zero line near border pillar no-44, according to former chairman of Naikhongchhari Sadar Union Nurul Absar Imon.
Naikhongchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Muhammad Mazharul Islam Chowdhury confirmed the incident.
The victim, 17-year-old Arafatul Islam, is a resident of ward-8 in Jamchhari area and the son of Khuillya Mia.
According to former chairman Imon, Arafat had gone to the border area with his father to collect bamboo when he accidentally stepped on a landmine.
The explosion severed one of his legs completely. Locals initiated a rescue, offering first aid before arranging his transfer to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for specialised medical attention, Imon said.
