Tarique assures cooperation for DU’s education, research and infrastructure development
During the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan briefed the BNP acting chairman on overall campus security and stability.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman yesterday (5 January) assured all possible cooperation for the development of education, research and infrastructure at Dhaka University (DU).
He made the assurance during a meeting with DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan at the BNP chairperson's political office in Gulshan in the evening.
According to a press release issued by the university's Public Relations Office, the meeting was part of a series of regular dialogues between key stakeholders and leaders of different political parties to discuss campus stability and the overall environment ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election.
During the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan briefed the BNP acting chairman on overall campus security and stability ahead of the national election, progress of Dhaka University's large-scale development projects, the post-DUCSU election situation, ongoing education and research activities, the university's improvement in international rankings, and various recent initiatives taken for student welfare.
He also informed Tarique Rahman about different programmes undertaken by Dhaka University in memory of former prime minister Khaleda Zia following her death.
The vice-chancellor said Dhaka University's stability has a significant impact on the national election atmosphere and sought Tarique Rahman's advice and cooperation in maintaining campus stability, improving education and research, and advancing infrastructure development.
In response, the BNP acting chairman assured possible cooperation in education and research development as well as infrastructure advancement at the university.
During the meeting, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan expressed deep sorrow over the death of Khaleda Zia, describing her as a symbol of national unity. He prayed for the eternal peace of her soul and personally conveyed his condolences to Tarique Rahman.
Earlier, the DU vice-chancellor signed the condolence book preserved at the BNP chairperson's office in Gulshan.
