Tackle 21st-century challenges through modern training: Army chief calls on soldiers

All the members of the regiment need to remain prepared to tackle 21st-century challenges through modern and relevant training, said Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman today (27 February).
"I hope army personnel will willingly fulfil their duties in service of the nation and be prepared to sacrifice their lives if necessary," he said during the 7th "Colonel of the Regiment" induction ceremony at the Shaheed Colonel Anis Parade Ground in Rajshahi Cantonment.
"The Bangladesh Army's regiments have undergone modernisation. This includes establishing new units, adding modern weapons and equipment, and implementing welfare and development initiatives, all of which have enhanced the army's capabilities," General Waker added.
He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that every member of the regiment is trained and professional.
Earlier in the day, General Waker-Uz-Zaman was inducted as the 7th colonel of the Bangladesh Infantry Regiment, also known as the Regiment of the Millennium in the country, according to a release of the Directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations.
When the army chief reached the venue, he was formally greeted according to customary military tradition and a smart contingent of the Bangladesh Infantry Regiment provided a guard of honour as part of the occasion.
Then, the senior most commander and senior most master warrant officer of the Bangladesh Infantry Regiment presented the Colonel rank badge of the Bangladesh Infantry Regiment to the army chief.
Addressing the regiment, General Waker recalled the sacrifices of all valiant members of the regiment and other martyrs during the 1971 Liberation War, reports BSS.
The army chief also highlighted the proud history of the infantry regiment, and its service for the country and the nation. Lauding the regiment's activities, and for its role in international affairs, the army chief also congratulated regiment personnel to this end.
Senior military officers, other officers, junior commissioned officers, other ranks of the army and media persons were present at the event.
