Rafiqul Islam, an adventurous swimmer from Sirajganj's Belkuchi upazila, reached Chandpur's Molhead on Saturday, marking the 19th day of his mission to swim from the border region of Jhunkarchar in Kurigram to the Bay of Bengal.

Rafiqul, known for his brave expeditions, was warmly received upon arrival by Chandpur's Chief Judicial Magistrate Muntasir Ahmed, world traveler Tanvir Apu, and local residents.

He said his expedition is part of an initiative by his adventure organisation to promote thrilling and challenging pursuits.

Under the theme "From Grief to Strength," he embarked on this mission on 21 February, aiming to swim a total of 550 kilometers to the Bay of Bengal by Independence Day.

On Saturday, he started from Sureshwar Charatra in Shariatpur at 7am and reached Chandpur Molhead at 4:30 pm, covering 22 kilometers in a single stretch.

Despite the long journey, he appeared energetic and determined.

So far, Rafiqul has swam through key river routes, including Chilmari in Kurigram, the Jamuna Bridge, and the Padma and Meghna rivers.

On Sunday morning, he resumed his journey from Chandpur, preparing to cover the final 150 kilometers toward the Bay of Bengal. He is accompanied by fellow adventurer Faruq and members of the Great Delta Expedition team.

Expressing his passion for river swimming, Rafiqul said, "Bangladesh is a riverine country, and through swimming, I have come to know the simple and kind-hearted people living along these riverbanks. I seek everyone's prayers so I can successfully complete my mission."
