SUST to hold central students' union election on 17 December
The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) will hold elections for its central students' union (Suscu) and hall unions on 17 December.
The university's Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof AM Sarwaruddin Chowdhury announced the date at a press conference held on the university campus at 9pm on Friday (14 November).
"The election commission will conduct the polls in a fair and orderly manner. We will not interfere in its work," the vice-chancellor said.
A day earlier, Thursday's scheduled press briefing to announce the election schedule was postponed, sparking student protests.
Agitated students began demonstrating from the evening and staged a sit-in in front of the registrar building. Later, around 10pm, they locked the administrative building and continued their sit-in in front of the VC's residence.
At around 1am, the vice-chancellor and pro-vice chancellor arrived at the scene.
They had assured the students that the Sucsu election would be completed by 10 December.
Meanwhile, the election commission has already launched its website along with the constitution for conducting the polls.
