Subrata Bain's daughter sent to jail in murder case
A Dhaka court has ordered Khadija Yasmin, daughter of notorious terrorist Subrata Bain, to be sent to jail in connection with the murder of Jubo Dal leader Arif Sikder seven months ago in Hatirjheel area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibuzzaman's court passed the order after the hearing this evening (16 December).
However, due to the absence of original documents of the case, the hearing on her seven-day remand has been scheduled for Thursday.
Earlier, police produced Khadija in court with a seven-day remand plea.
The remand application stated that Subrata Bain, also known as Fateh Ali, and his daughter Khadija had begun asserting control over the Moghbazar and Hatirjheel areas. Following 5 August 2024, they allegedly considered Arif Sikder as a political opponent.
The application claimed that Arif's murder was planned and instigated directly by Subrata Bain and Khadija.
Investigators said Khadija's involvement is being probed, and a seven-day remand is required for a fair investigation.
According to the complaint, on the night of 19 April, Jubo Dal leader Arif Sikder was shot in front of The Jhil Cafe in Nayatola Morol Goli under Hatirjheel Police Station. He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and died on 21 April during treatment. Arif was the former assistant-sports secretary of Jubo Dal's Ward-36 of Dhaka North unit.
Rima Akhter, Arif's sister, initially filed an attempted murder case against 10 individuals, including Subrata Bain's associate Mahfuzur Rahman Bipu. After Arif's death, the case was upgraded to a murder case.
Subrata Bain is currently in jail following his arrest. He was transferred from Narayanganj District Jail to Cumilla Central Jail on 5 December.
