Students stage sit-in outside VC's residence demanding RUAA election as scheduled

Current and former students of Rajshahi University (RU) staged a sit-in protest outside the vice-chancellor's (VC) residence this afternoon (1 May), demanding that the suspended election of the Rajshahi University Alumni Association (RUAA) be held as scheduled.
The demonstration began around 4:00pm and continued until 8:00pm, when protesters called off the sit-in following assurances from the VC.
The protest follows the RUAA ad-hoc committee's decision earlier in the day to postpone both the alumni reunion scheduled for 9 May and the executive committee election scheduled for 10 May.
Angered by the decision, RUAA members and students gathered outside the VC's residence, chanting slogans and calling for the election to proceed on the previously announced dates.
Protesters warned that they would intensify their movement if their demand was not met.
This protest comes after a similar demonstration held yesterday evening, where students also marched in demand of the election.
Later that night, a cocktail was reportedly detonated near the residence of the university's acting registrar.
