Stone-laden vessel sinks in rough Sandwip Channel, 7 sailors rescued

A stone-laden cargo vessel sank in the rough waters of Sandwip Channel in Chattogram this morning (24 April).
All seven crew members on board were rescued unharmed by a service boat operating on Chattogram-Sandwip route.
The incident occurred around 9:40am near buoy number 2 adjacent to Guptachhara Ghat.
Confirming the incident, Waliuddin Akber, in-charge of Kumira Naval Police outpost, told TBS, "The vessel had departed from Majhir Ghat in Karnaphuli River at around 4am en route to Bhola. However, it encountered strong waves due to rough sea conditions and began to take on water before eventually capsizing."
"Local passenger service boat personnel noticed the vessel struggling and immediately rushed to assist. After about an hour of effort, they successfully rescued all seven crew members who were seen floating in the sea after the vessel went under," he added.
He said the rescue team had come from Kumira Ghat in Sitakunda and acted swiftly upon spotting the stranded sailors and the rescued sailors are now in Sandwip.
