SPs to meet CA tomorrow ahead of national polls
Sources at the Chief Adviser’s Office and Police Headquarters confirmed that the meeting will take place at 9:30am at the CA Office.
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus will hold a meeting with the newly appointed superintendents of police (SPs) from all districts tomorrow (4 December), ahead of the 13th National Parliament elections.
Police officials said the meeting aims to provide guidance on election-time duties and maintaining law and order in the field.
Sources at the Chief Adviser's Office (CAO) and Police Headquarters confirmed that the meeting will take place at 9:30am at the CAO.
AHM Shahadat Hossain, assistant inspector general at Police Headquarters, told The Business Standard, "The chief adviser will address general issues and may give specific instructions on how field-level officials should perform election duties and maintain law and order."
Officials acknowledged that recent fluctuations in law and order have caused public concern, especially with the national polls scheduled for February.
The meeting is expected to help field-level officers operate in a more organised and impartial manner during the election period, they said.
In addition to district SPs, commissioners of metropolitan police units, range DIGs, and senior officers of specialised crime units are also expected to attend the meeting.
Sirajganj SP Saiful Islam Shantu told TBS that he, like other SPs, has been instructed to join the meeting. "We expect to receive various directives to guide our field duties," he said.
Last week, the interim government appointed new SPs to all 64 districts, prioritising efficiency and impartiality ahead of the elections.
Officials said candidates from the 25th and 27th BCS (police) batches were shortlisted, and the final selections were made through a lottery system to avoid controversy in the election-oriented reshuffle.
