Speaker Dr Shirin reaches Uganda to attend conference

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury reached Uganda on Wednesday from Kazakhstan to attend the 64th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference.

The conference is being held from September 22 to 29 in Kampala, the capital city of the East African country.  

President of the foreign affairs committee of Uganda Parliament Jack Wamanga Wamal received the Speaker at Entebbe International Airport in Kampala.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Kenya Maj Gen Md Jahangir Kabir Talukder was present there.

Dr Shirin exchanged pleasantries with Indian Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at the airport in Kampala, said a Parliament Secretariat handout here.

The Speaker will lead a Bangladesh parliamentary delegation at the conference. The other delegation members are whip Iqbalur Rahim, Md Abdus Shahid, MP, Abu Zahir, MP, Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, MP, and Sherin Ahmed, MP.

Dr Shirin is expected to return home on September 28.

On Sunday last, the Speaker left Dhaka for Kazakhstan to attend the 4th meeting of Speakers of the Eurasian Countries Parliaments held on September 23-24 in capital Nur-Sultan.
