Speaker announces five-member panel of chairmen for parliament
Under the Rules of Procedure, in the absence of both the speaker and deputy speaker, the highest-ranking member of the panel present in the House will preside over the session
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed today (7 June) announced a five-member panel of chairmen who will preside over parliament proceedings in the absence of the speaker and deputy speaker.
The announcement came at the beginning of the second session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
The second session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad began at 3pm, with Speaker Hafiz Uddin in the chair.
Announcing the panel, the speaker said that under the Rules of Procedure, in the absence of both the speaker and deputy speaker, the highest-ranking member of the panel present in the House will preside over the session.
According to the list announced in parliament, MP for a reserved women's seat Begum Selima Rahman has been placed first on the panel.
MP for Kishoreganj-3 Muhammad Osman Faruk has been named second, followed by MP for Barishal-3 Zainul Abedin in third place.
Noakhali-4 MP Mohammad Shahjahan has been nominated as the fourth member of the panel, while Chattogram-15 lawmaker Shahjahan Chowdhury has been named fifth.
Following the announcement, the speaker placed a condolence motion before the House in line with the day's agenda.
Parliament was informed that 16 former ministers and state ministers had passed away in recent times.
In keeping with parliamentary practice, members expressed their condolences in memory of the deceased former policymakers and public representatives.
Special prayers were offered and a period of silence was observed for the salvation of their souls.
