Son beats father to death while trying to stop alleged assault on mother in Rajshahi

A man was killed in Rajshahi after his son allegedly struck him with a bamboo stick while attempting to stop him from assaulting his wife, according to police and local sources.
The victim, Rezaul, 65, was critically injured during an altercation at their home this morning (22 June). He was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The son, Rakibul, reportedly fled the scene on a motorcycle following the incident.
Rakibul Islam, is a former student of the Social Work Department at Rajshahi University and was preparing for civil service exams.
According to police and local sources, Rezaul frequently locked into altercations with his wife, Anjuwara Begum, and would often physically assault her. The situation escalated this morning when an argument broke out between the couple, during which Rezaul reportedly assaulted his wife.
Seeing his mother being assaulted, Rakibul picked up a bamboo stick and struck his father on the head, leaving him critically injured and bleeding.
Following the incident, family members rushed Rezaul to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), where doctors declared him dead.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Gaziur Rahman said the killing did not appear to be premeditated in nature.
However, he confirmed that the father died due to injuries caused by the son's blow. Preparations are underway to file a murder case in this connection.
Police have launched an operation to arrest the accused. The body has been kept at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
