Single-use plastics banned in Secretariat from tomorrow
The Cabinet Division has directed all ministries to stop using single-use plastics and promote reusable items

Single-use plastics will be completely banned inside the Bangladesh Secretariat from tomorrow (5 October).
All entry points will be checked, and anyone carrying polythene or single-use plastic items will not be allowed inside, said a press release issued by the Ministry of Environment today (4 October).
Paper bags will be provided instead, it added.
According to the press release, awareness boards have been installed at entrances and inside the Secretariat, and a monitoring team has been deployed to ensure the ban is enforced.

The Cabinet Division has directed all ministries to stop using single-use plastics and promote reusable items.
Plastic bottles, cups, plates, and spoons will not be allowed in meetings or seminars.
Jute, cloth, and other reusable bags are encouraged. Alternative items must also be included in government procurement, the ministry added.
It said officials and employees have also been instructed to stop using single-use plastics in their daily work. They will have to use paper or eco-friendly food packages in meetings and seminars.
Each ministry will appoint a focal person and form a monitoring committee to ensure compliance.
All ministries and departments are asked to cooperate fully from tomorrow to make the Secretariat free of single-use plastics, the ministry urged.
