Shopkeeper beaten, handed to police for alleged attempt to rape 8-yr-old in Narayanganj

A shopkeeper named Selim Uddin, 50, has been handed over to police by locals after being beaten for allegedly attempting to rape an eight-year-old girl in Narayanganj's Siddhirganj.
The incident took place this morning (14 March) in Atigram of Ward No 4 in Siddhirganj.
Police said locals beat Selim after learning about the incident from the child and informed the police. A team from Siddhirganj Police Station arrived at the scene and rescued Selim.
"A man named Selim Uddin has been detained by locals and handed over to police on charges of attempting to rape a child. The victim's family members have also come to the station to file a complaint," Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahinur Alam.
The child's grandmother said the girl went to the shop in the morning to buy biscuits. When she arrived at Selim's shop, he allegedly attempted to rape her.
When the child screamed, people from the surrounding area held the accused Selim, she added.
Siddhirganj OC said legal action will be taken after receiving a written complaint.
