On 3 January, a group of three to four individuals broke into a jewelry shop at Shimanto Shambhar, stealing 159 bhori of gold items

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested three individuals and recovered 50 bhori of gold items which were stolen during a burglary at a jewelry shop at the Shimanto Shambhar shopping complex in the capital's Dhanmondi area.

The arrestees have been identified as MD Rubel, 28, Shafiq alias Shohel, 35, and Saddam Hussein, 31.

On 3 January, a group of three to four individuals broke into a jewelry shop at Shimanto Shambhar, stealing 159 bhori of gold items.

Following the incident, the shop owner filed a case at Dhanmondi model police station.

"Through video footage analysis and the use of technology, we were able to identify MD Rubel, who was later arrested in Cumilla," said Nasirul Islam, joint commissioner of DB South, during a press conference at the DMP media center this morning (12 January).

"Based on Rubel's information, the police subsequently arrested Shafiq and Saddam, recovering 50 bhori of gold items."

The DB official further said a total of eight to nine individuals were involved in the burglary, and all have been identified.

"Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects," he added.
