Shaheed Zia Shishu Park likely to open by June 2027: Dhaka South administrator
Physical progress of the project stands at 30%; tender invited for 15 modern rides.
Shaheed Zia Shishu Park in Shahbagh is expected to open to the public by 30 June 2027, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam said today (6 September).
He made the remarks as the chief guest at the inauguration of Pubali Bank PLC's Shishu Park Branch at the park's project site in Shahbagh.
"The current government has taken initiatives to complete the remaining work of the park as quickly as possible. The physical progress of the project currently stands at 30%. An international tender has already been invited to procure 15 state-of-the-art rides for children. These rides account for around 75% of the entire project work," the DSCC administrator said.
"We hope that we will be able to gift children a modern park within the stipulated time," he added.
As part of the modernisation project, the building housing Pubali Bank's branch on the park premises has been reconstructed.
Urging the private sector to help make Dhaka a "clean city, green city", Salam called on businesses to undertake social development initiatives through corporate social responsibility (CSR), including road beautification, cleanliness drives and tree planting.
He also urged residents to keep their homes and surrounding areas clean and ensure that water does not remain stagnant for more than three days anywhere to help prevent dengue.
"Citizen awareness is the main way to control dengue," he said.
Pubali Bank PLC Managing Director and Chief Executive Mohammad Ali attended the event as a special guest.
Senior officials from the city corporation and the bank were also present.
