The injured individuals are 'July Fighters' and the attackers are members of Chhatra League, according to the NCP.
A clash broke out at a cricket stadium in Chattogram over the chanting of the slogan "Joy Bangla," leaving eight to 10 people injured last night (29 October) during a match between Bangladesh and the visiting West Indies.
Police later detained six individuals in connection with the incident.
The altercation took place at around 9pm at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in the city's Pahartali area, during the second T20 match between Bangladesh and the West Indies.
The injured individuals are "July Fighters" and the attackers are members of Chhatra League, according to the National Citizen Party (NCP).
Sohel Rana, assistant in charge of the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost, said three of the injured – Md Mehedi, 27, Sulaiman Swapan, 28, and Nurul Huda, 25 — are currently receiving treatment at the hospital's casualty ward.
Ridwan Hridoy, chief coordinator of the NCP's media cell and a member of its Chattogram city coordination committee, claimed that the clash erupted after activists of the banned organisation Chhatra League displayed placards bearing the name of "Awami fascist" Shakib Al Hasan and chanted "Joy Bangla" during the match.
When general spectators and others protested, Chhatra League members attacked them, injuring at least 10 "July Fighters," he claimed.
Pahartali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jasim Uddin said six people were detained following the incident, adding that their identities are being verified.
Earlier, on 11 October, a similar scuffle broke out at a concert at a convention centre in the city's GEC intersection area over the chanting of the "Joy Bangla" slogan, during which a Chhatra Dal activist was shot.
