SC issues notice inviting applications for additional judge in HC
This marks the first time in the country's history that appointments to the higher judiciary are being conducted through a formal council system

The Supreme Court administration has issued a public notice inviting applications for the position of additional judge in the High Court Division, under the newly enacted Supreme Court Judges Appointment Ordinance, 2025.
The announcement was published on the official website of the Supreme Court today (28 May).
According to the notice, "In accordance with Section 7 of the Supreme Court Judges Appointment Ordinance, 2025, and based on the unanimous decision of the Supreme Judicial Appointment Council, applications are now being invited through a public notice for appointment to the post of additional judge in the High Court Division."
It further states that although many interested candidates have already submitted their applications in the prescribed format following earlier notices issued across relevant platforms, the council has now decided to issue a public call for applications to widen the selection process.
"In this context, and to facilitate the collection of necessary information from suitable candidates, the council invites applications in the prescribed format, along with required supporting documents and a passport-sized photograph, to be submitted either by post or in person to the Registrar General's Office of the Supreme Court by 22 June," the notice read.
The notice also clarifies that applicants who have already submitted their applications in the proper format do not need to reapply.
This marks the first time in the country's history that appointments to the higher judiciary are being conducted through a formal council system.
The ordinance was officially gazetted on 21 January 2025, introducing a structured process for the appointment of Supreme Court judges.
