Saudi Arabia and Jordan have taken initiatives to legalise undocumented Bangladeshi female workers living there currently.
Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Asif Nazrul shared this information with journalists today (6 May), following his recent visit to Saudi Arabia.
He said, "During my previous visit to Saudi Arabia, I had requested the concerned Saudi minister to legalise undocumented Bangladeshi workers. During this visit, I have learned that Saudi Arabia has already started the process of legalising undocumented female workers."
During the recent visit, Nazrul held a meeting with Dr Abdullah N Abuthnain, the vice minister of Human Resources and Social Development for Labor of Saudi Arabia.
On the sidelines of the World Occupational Health and Safety Conference in Saudi Arabia, the adviser also held a meeting with a Jordanian minister.
During the meeting, Jordan said that undocumented Bangladeshi workers there can also become legalised if they wish.
Between 2004 and April 2025, Saudi Arabia recruited approximately 6,00,000 Bangladeshi female workers. During the same period, Jordan recruited 2,11,000 Bangladeshi female workers.
Bangladesh has also requested Jordan to increase the recruitment of Bangladeshi male workers.
