Sand trader goes missing after jumping into Turag River to avoid arrest
A fire service diving team began rescue operations at the site

While escaping police, Amjad Hossain, a sand trader from the Kodda area under Konabari Police Station in Gazipur city, went missing after jumping into the Turag River.
The incident occurred around 6pm on Wednesday.
Upon receiving the news, a fire service diving team began rescue operations at the site. Despite their efforts, the team could not locate him.
According to relatives, around 6pm last Wednesday, 8–10 individuals arrived in a private car, claiming to be DB police, and surrounded Amjad's sand business premises.
When they attempted to arrest him, Amjad tried to flee on foot. As they chased him from behind, he jumped into the Turag River to escape capture.
After the alleged DB officers left, relatives and locals searched the river throughout the night. Failing to find him, they informed the fire service divers, who began a search yesterday morning at 7am. The operation continued until 4pm without success.
Amjad's father, Idris Ali, said, "No case has been filed against my son. Yet, the DB police have harassed him multiple times before. To avoid their harassment and escape, he jumped into the river. I demand a proper investigation and justice for those responsible."
Ashok Kumar Pal, Deputy Commissioner (South) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB), stated, "Our detective team did not chase him. They did not even step out of the car when he sensed them and fled. He might have had an accident while escaping."
Md Salahuddin, Officer-in-Charge of Konabari Police Station, said, "We are supervising the rescue operation at the site. So far, no trace has been found."
