However, the meritorious students who achieved GPA 5 in the Secondary School Certificate examination this year were given honorary mementos and prizes.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the children of the country will: be patriots, good human beings, worthy citizens, serve the people, and educate themselves with modern education.

Talking about the novel coronavirus pandemic that forced the schools to be shut down, she said it has been very painful for the children.

The prime minister advised the children to continue their studies at home with utmost attention and other activities so that whenever the schools reopen, they can join without a hitch.

Mentioning that her youngest brother Sheikh Russell was born on 18 October, 1964, Sheikh Hasina said: "Today is the birthday of Sheikh Russell. But he was assassinated on 15 August, 1975 and thus a flower was nipped in the bud."

The engineering support and services company, Saif Powertec, has emerged as a socially responsible corporate citizen in the last couple of years.

In the wake of  the pandemic this year, it further extended its arm of humanity making contributions to the prime minister's relief fund, donating oxygen cylinders and protective equipment to hospitals.

Saif Powertec contributed Tk2 crore to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund recently to help fight the novel coronavirus.
