Ride sharing service vehicles with enlistment certificates from the Bangladesh road transport authority (BRTA) can now operate in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Manikganj, Narsinghdi and Munshiganj districts to help passengers commute to their destinations maintaining proper social distancing.
The decision came in a videoconference meeting conducted by the BRTA on Saturday, said a government notice issued by the BRTA.
The ride sharing services with listed vehicles can start providing services from Sunday the government notice added.
But the permission to conduct ride sharing via motorbikes has not been granted as social distancing cannot be maintained while using this mode of transportation.
BRTA has also published a list of 255 such listed vehicles with the notice.
The "Ride Sharing Service Rules – 2017" says that ride sharing services via mobile apps cannot operate vehicles on the roads of the country without an enlistment certificate from the BRTA.
So, anyone violating the directives will have to face necessary legal action said the notice.
