The prime minister made the remarks while responding to a written question from Dhaka-16 lawmaker Md Abdul Baten in parliament.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today (22 April) said that the matter of permanently rehabilitating Urdu-speaking Bangladeshi citizens living in various camps under Pallabi Police Station may be considered following a detailed survey.
He also noted that no plan has yet been adopted under the National Housing Authority for the permanent rehabilitation of Urdu-speaking residents in the camps located in Pallabi.
The prime minister made the remarks while responding to a written question from Dhaka-16 lawmaker Md Abdul Baten in parliament.
However, he added that, subject to the findings of a comprehensive survey, an initiative to ensure their permanent rehabilitation could be taken.
He also informed that the camps housing Urdu-speaking Bangladeshi citizens had accumulated outstanding electricity bills amounting to over Tk40 crore for the period prior to 2016.
The arrears are being paid gradually, subject to budget allocation from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.
"An allocation of Tk5 crore has been made for this purpose in the 2025-2026 fiscal year, and the payment process is ongoing," Tarique said.
